Halloween is here! I can only say that the Halloween memento is becoming more and more part of the party calendar every year. 20 years ago, Halloween was very small in the UK in comparison to how big this celebration, particularly for children has been in the US. Now this is a reason to party, love and watch scary movies! Family time and kick off the party season. I personally love all the celebrations and although I am not into costume myself, I love to see people making the effort when they go to theme parties at this time of the year. Saying that... I am going out tonight to meet with friends from different parts of the world who lives in London. Tonight will be all about El dia de los Muertos or Day of the Dead. According to Wikipedia, this is a Mexican holiday celebrated throughout Mexico, in particular the Central and South regions, and by people of Mexican ancestry living in other places, especially the United States. It is acknowledged internationally in many other cultures. The multi-day holiday focuses on gatherings of family and friends to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died, and help support their spiritual journey. In 2008, the tradition was inscribed in the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO. The holiday is sometimes called Día de los Muertos in Anglophone countries, a back-translation of its original name, Día de Muertos. It is particularly celebrated in Mexico where the day is a public holiday. Prior to Spanish colonization in the 16th century, the celebration took place at the beginning of summer. Gradually, it was associated with October 31, November 1 and November 2 to coincide with the Western Christian triduum of Allhallowtide: All Saints' Eve, All Saints' Day, and All Souls' Day. Traditions connected with the holiday include building private altars called ofrendas, honoring the deceased using calaveras, aztec marigolds, and the favorite foods and beverages of the departed, and visiting graves with these as gifts. Visitors also leave possessions of the deceased at the graves. On October 31, All Hallows Eve, the children make a children's altar to invite the angelitos (spirits of dead children) to come back for a visit. November 1 is All Saints Day, and the adult spirits will come to visit. November 2 is All Souls Day, when families go to the cemetery to decorate the graves and tombs of their relatives. The three-day fiesta is filled with marigolds, the flowers of the dead; muertos (the bread of the dead); sugar skulls; cardboard skeletons; tissue paper decorations; fruit and nuts; incense, and other traditional foods and decorations. Hope you all now are in the party mood. I sure am.

Happy Halloween!!!!!

She is a very hard working woman with a great talent. Her inspiration is from the colours, The Earth, the sky, the fire and the sea. She loves gems and beads as well as playing around with different materials. Each piece has something unique coming from inspirational women all over the world. I find her pieces relevant, innovative and inspiring. Let me know what you think. Browse for the different pieces on our Gifts for Her/ Fashion Jewellery section. NEWS ALERT. We have launched a new range of fashion jewellery products. All of them have got a unique design and it is the perfect addition to our current product range. We are very excited to be able to offer these products which can be customised to meet your individual requirements as well as to be personalised if you prefer. The designer is a close friend of my and together when discussing this venture we got inspiration from nature, bringing colours to live and to enhance the timeless pieces adding  a touch of the latin culture we are so much related to. The sea blue reminds us of beautiful beaches and the brown and natural brown linked to Earth. The shades of green bring the colour of the leaves in Spring and Summer. The pieces are wearable from day to night and they can make any outfit look fantastic. We love pearls and we have found a way to combine them bringing colour as well and they look very trendy. We have looked at sets and individual pieces so we have catered for all the different options. Browse on the Gifts for Her category/Fashion Jewellery and you will feel like a kid in a candy store!

Personalised Gifts for All

No Comments by root

AUTUMN IS HERE and people have been asking me one question: “What are the hottest gifts for the holidays?” I have been telling them the trends I’m seeing, succulents, tablet computers, and a whole category of gifts: personalised gifts. Personalisation, such as monogramming a gift, engraving or printing a date or message, is both a classic idea and totally on-trend. It makes a gift seem more thoughtful and planned. And for kids’ gifts in particular, it’s a practical way to mark an item so it won’t get lost at school … or seized by a sibling. Personalized gifts are also great for college students in dorm rooms. When you are shopping for personalized gifts this holiday, here are a few tips. The recipients of a personalised gift will have something special to treasure when we send it to celebrate an engagement, a wedding anniversary or a retirement. When you are ordering your personalised gifts, pay attention to how many characters you are allowed per line, and how many lines total, so that you won’t get a call from a concerned customer service rep when your message doesn’t fit. Personalisation can take a couple of extra days, particularly as the holidays heat up and companies go into overdrive filling all their orders, so order early. That said, personalised products are available much more quickly than they were in the past.

We met such lovely people and it was so wonderful to meet so many traders and small business like ours and hear the stories and similarities to what we are facing. We have also started the final stage of the Christmas preparation, looking at new exclusive lines and we are pleased to say that we are very excited about introducing new pieces of jewellery from a new designer/maker who I am very proud to call my friends. So, get ready as we will be very soon uploading the images of this collection. Also getting ready to build the stock of the popular lines from our suppliers from overseas and the UK to be able to fulfill all the orders when the Christmas rush gets here. Before I go this week, I wanted to talk about The Handmade Fair. This is the ultimate creative day out, and it takes place this weekend at Hampton Court, west London. On Saturday 16th September, I will definitively be there. Take part in hands-on workshops, learn from the experts, eat from delicious street food vendors, and buy tools, materials, and beautiful products from the handpicked sellers - a great day out for all!

Wooden gifts - New products range addition.

No Comments by root

Above almost all materials that people use to build with, wood surpasses them all. You do hear about various pieces made from metal and other new age materials, but when it comes to wood, it has more inspiration put into it than any other stock. What makes wood such an irresistible material? There are a number of answers to the question. The range of colors, patterns, and even the way certain wood displays such a magnificent aroma, comes to mind. The variety of species also makes each wooden piece one of a kind, even if the sculpture or gifted piece looks similar to another. Aside from the beauty of each wooden piece that ever individual species of tree gives to the work of art or gifted item, you also have to take into consideration that we respond more to wood than to concrete, cement, and other manufactured materials. Wood grows and changes over time, it “seasons” like we do, and does so with grace, and thus wood gifts are both beautiful and filled with sentimental meaning. There is a connection with lumber and wood stock with us because it is part of the natural world, as we are. Each species of tree that the work of art or gift comes from has a history. Just as people have a history. As a result, we have decided to add more items to our wooden gifts collection and we will be uploading images of them very soon in time for the Christmas season. In the meantime, enjoy the rest of the Summer!!!
